RE-BIRTH
13 SEPTEMBER 2023 PEDER LUND OSLO
Bracelet Louise was exclusively launched on September 13th in the space of Peder Lund gallery in Oslo, which represents some of the most acclaimed names in contemporary art. It was a great honour to be able to launch Louise in this location, even more in collaboration with the renowned Swedish architect Christian Halleroed. Guests were invited to immerse themselves in the world, mind, and womb of Spustova. A womb of ideas and emotions. As a space where something bigger emerges. A sound piece by pianist and producer AVR/Anna Von Raison, a feed installation by Marina Melentieva, and words by Emma Aars were shown alongside Louise, in addition to the first mirror object made by Zuzana herself.
The launch was followed by an intimate dinner at Maaemo for selected guests.
Louise is inspired by birth, inviting for rebirth. On September 13th 2023, Louise is born. Online launch is planned for Monday, September 25th 2023.
Spustova is fine jewellery from the womb.

2 Hospital bracelet; Sakura's hospital bracelet
3 Womb; Sound work by pianist AVR & Words by Johann Spusta
Sound work made by artist and sound designer Anna Von Raison. The piece is based on the sound from Zuzana’s video recordings of her daughter Sakura underwater in summer 2022 and is the sound of imagining listening to the world from inside the womb. It includes also the voice of Zuzana’s middle child, Johann, speaking to himself in a series of secret voice recordings on his mother’s phone, found by chance long after they were recorded. The world was in lockdown, Johann just became an older brother, and restless with boredom and slight jealousy, he made recordings on his mother’s phone in Slovak. Perhaps for himself, an imagined friend, or his new sibling. The sound is a collaboration between Zuzana and her children, as well as between Spustova and Anna Von Raison. Available at Spotify and Apple Music.

6 Mother; Mirror object by Zuzana Spustova, stainless steel 150 x 50 x 15 cm
Mother is the name of the Zuzana’s first object beyond her jewellery, produced in collaboration with the renowned architect Christian Halleroed. The idea for the piece came in the run-up to the launch in a conversation with Tora, the director of Peder Lund, when she asked a Zuzana what is it like to be a mother of three. Zuzana responded: “It is like having three mirrors at you constantly”.The three different mirrors on display represent the motherhood of three different children, at different ages, each with their own physical, psychological, and emotional capabilities and needs. Sakura, a toddler, immediately reflects Zuzana’s absence or inattentiveness through screaming – and likewise with the laughs and joy when her mother is present. Sakura’s mirror is bulky and wobbly, reflecting a playful yet chaotic self. The second mirror reflects her second child and son, Johann, who is still a child but about to become a teenager soon. She can still see it in his behaviour when she isn’t a present mother, and he continues to surprise her as he grows into a person of his own. The mirror of her oldest son, Magnus, is clean and straightforward, just like he sees through Zuzana and her actions, and their communication is direct. He is a fully developed human being and tells Zuzana if she contradicts herself, or allows things she usually wouldn’t.
Where the teenager doesn’t get the point of Sakura’s wobbly mirror, the middle child is not yet ready to grow up and wishes his younger sister’s mirror belonged to him. She, on the other hand, longed for her oldest brother’s mirror, where she could see her own beauty clearly.
Mother doesn’t simply represent Zuzana’s three children, or herself as a mother of three, but a herself in flux ever evolving.
